When you see the phrase “commitment issues” you’re likely inclined to conjure an image of a guy or girl with cold feet, the endless engagement, or what have you. My problem is unique. I’m not afraid to commit.

My dilemma is that I’m too eager to commit.

I had a good thing happening here towards the beginning of 2009. Two episodes of a fledgling podcast which, quite frankly, I’m ridiculously proud of. The highest compliment was someone actually asking when I’d be producing another one. But success elsewhere chipped away at success here. Yes, this isn’t the kind of problem one complains about…I’m helping to run a gaming website that just oozes personality and indie spirit, a familiar course for me which I absolutely love. The Portable Gamer consumes about every waking minute of my non-day-job clock. And yes, this “professional hobby” is voluntary. But building things and watching them flourish – there’s no greater thrill, and no less thrilling addiction.

I’m not looking to complain; I’m looking for solutions. Many of you, like me, manage more than just a day job and the occasional hobby. You’re technology fiends, avid gamers, music junkies. You work full time, run two websites, host podcasts, stay on top of your Twitter and Facebook accounts, rock the occasional fake plastic instrument…you may even have a social life and friends :-)

I’ve seen a lot of folks converting their blogs to Tumblr style outfits. I’m all about streamlining right now, but do not want to sacrifice quality anywhere to make that happen. Mental Doodles & Lost Thoughts was awesome, and it’s therapeutic to maintain a blog here and explore what’s on my mind.

So, gang, what works for you? How do YOU maintain your blog, or your personal podcast? Any suggestions?

Brainstorming said musings…

Doubting my ability to write said musings…

Trying to repair the earbuds that got dunked into my coffee (long story)…

Prepping the transformation of GamesAreEvil from a website to a network…

Trying (and failing) to tolerate an estimated 5,000 people on my block during the recent invasion of Extreme Makeover just down the street…

But you see, ultimately, these are all merely excuses.

The #1 reason I’m not writing is fear. Fear that it won’t be polished enough, articulate enough, factual enough, convincing enough, moving enough to keep you coming back.

Tonight friends, I’ve decided – finally – to write for myself, in my own gritty and sometimes inarticulate fashion. No emphasis on media or images or perfection: Just a running dialogue about an industry, and a lifestyle, that has me bound and laughing.

And sincerely, I hope that you’ll not only follow the noise, but join it.

It starts tomorrow.

For those of you following along post-insomnia radio, it’s time to offer an explanation into what’s been going on with my writing. My first love was prose, well into my teen years and extending into my early 20’s, and without much warning that creative well seemed to dry up. Years later, Insomnia Radio allowed my creative side to flourish again…

But shortly after ending my role with IR, the writing bug came back and bit me quite aggressively in the ass. But I made a mistake – I unearthed an unfinished manuscript from almost 12 years ago, based on personal events, and for a short time breathed some new life in it.

Then, 3 weeks ago – two of the actual people it’s characters were based on unexpectedly popped back into my life after roughly 7 years of being MIA. The karma was good, the friendships resumed, and all seemed to be right with my past. The unexpected side effect was that the inspiration to finish this very dusty novel vanished, as if writing it was therapy I no longer needed.

So friends, I regrouped, and started a new novel that once again sparked my imagination, and although I’m only three chapters in, the ideas are barraging me and for the very first time, I am confident that at some point in my life, I WILL be a published writer. And if not, you’ll have a quality audiobook to listen to.

With that said, I’m going to turn THIS domain, jasonevangelho.com, into a journal of sorts. I’ll post original music, poetry, short stories, and simply just be myself here.

BUT – I’ve also purchased a domain name for the REAL upcoming novel and I’ll be pointing all of you towards it soon. I intend that to be my return to podcasting…

The last 3 months have been a bumpy ride, but the ship is starting to right itself, and I’m sorry for the silence, as well as sparking your interest in Mister Faded Glory and then revoking it :-( I won’t abandon it, but I realize I don’t need to be married to it either.

so thanks for sticking around!

All my best;
Jason
